The game is based on individual days, you have a morning which is a prep time in your bunker, the rest of the day which is when you choose were to go on a mission, and then a night where you’re back in your bunker. I really like these options and fully support them, I hope this kind of segmented difficulty options comes to more games. That was really nice to me because it allows you to customize the stuff you either don’t like or aren’t good at to make the game an appropriate difficulty for yourself. I set combat to one step above normal, and then both the survival and management stuff down to very easy cause I couldn’t be bothered with that stuff as it’s not my cup of tea, getting an option for all three of those was interesting usually it’s just one setting that covers all three or it only covers combat. And if you dislike any of the three types of play, you can change their individual difficulties, so there isn’t just an overall difficulty.

In the game you play as Igor, a scientist that use to work at Chernobyl back before and up to when it’s reactor melted down and blew up, as it did in real life. In those situations, Traps are Igor’s best bet as there is a variety of them, each with different uses: Sure, players knew all about the Base-Building aspects of Chernobylite, but what about Traps they can use out in the field? Sure, it’s easy in the beginning to sneak up on the three to four NAR soldiers early on and take them out, but as the missions and levels progress, enemy spawns become more plentiful and complicated.

And, funnily enough, players can actually also use these Environmental Modifiers as step stools in order to get over certain fences or walls, though doing so feels similar to using a block of gold as a paperweight, considering the high-tech nature of these machines.

Odd how Igor knows how to build all these fantastical machines, but he is a pretty mysterious guy. Sort of a spoiler, but helps to delay the appearance of a constant enemy called the “Black Stalker”, giving Igor time to craft a few things in preparation for his appearance. Limits the number of “wormholes” that the creatures in this game use to spawn on maps, lowering their overall appearance. This lowers the radiation generation of a map, making it safer to explore. These are buildable structures players can place on a map that lower a variety of dangerous factors one might face returning to this level time and time again. The Environmental Modifiers are probably one of the more innovative things Chernobylite does.
